Academics
At Mizan Preparatory Academy, our academic model is intentionally designed to combine rigor, structure, and support ensuring that students are supported in receiving a high-quality education while remaining grounded in a nurturing, faith-centered environment. For more information on the PALCS program and their process, please refer to the PALCS FAQ.
We operate through a hybrid model that integrates established academic systems with in-person guidance, mentorship, and enrichment.
Academic Framework
Mizan does not replace a student’s primary academic institution. All students are enrolled in an accredited program such as PALCS or a registered homeschool. Mizan students utilize the curriculum and instructional support of Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School (PALCS), a state-approved public cyber charter school that delivers standards-aligned academic instruction.
Through PALCs:
Students receive instruction from state-certified teachers
Curriculum aligns with Pennsylvania Core Standards
Instruction is delivered through a structured virtual platform
At Mizan, this is not left to function independently. We provide
On-site academic support and supervision
Teacher aides and instructors to guide students daily
A structured classroom environment that ensures accountability and focus
Each student utilizes a school-issued device provided through their cyber charter program
Curriculum & Instruction
Core curriculum is delivered through PALCS. Mizan supplements this with guided instruction, reinforcement, and enrichment. The academic curriculum meets or exceeds Pennsylvania standards and draws from established educational publishers, including:
Glencoe
Houghton Mifflin
Pearson / Prentice Hall
Macmillan / McGraw-Hill
Scott Foresman
Students benefit from a blend of:
Physical textbooks and reading materials
Digital learning platforms
Hands-on kits for science and art
Supplemental online resources
This ensures both depth of understanding and diverse learning engagement.
Enrichment & Applied Learning
Beyond core academics, Mizan incorporates enrichment opportunities that develop practical skills and creativity:
Reading development programs (including structured literacy approaches)
Introductory coding and technology exposure
Cooking and gardening initiatives
Muslim-friendly social and community activities
These programs are designed to support well-rounded development and real-world application of knowledge.
Islamic Studies Integration
Islamic learning is not treated as an addition—it is integrated into the daily rhythm of the student’s education.
Objectives
Cultivate a love for learning dīn through engaging and structured instruction
Develop strong tarbiyah (character and discipline)
Build a confident and rooted Muslim identity
Ensure steady progression with accountability and retention
Qur’an & Arabic
Students engage in a structured Qur’an program that includes:
Reading and fluency development
Surah memorization
Introduction to tajwīd rules
Daily du‘ā memorization and application
Traditional teaching methods are complemented with modern tools to enhance retention and consistency
Islamic Studies Curriculum
Our Islamic Studies program utilizes structured materials, including those from Safar Publications, covering:
Islamic beliefs (ʿAqīdah)
Morals and manners (Ādāb & Akhlāq)
Hadith studies
Fiqh (including Ṣalāh, Wuḍūʾ, and cleanliness)
Islamic history
Instruction is delivered in a way that is both accessible and rooted in tradition, ensuring students understand and internalize what they learn.
A Structured, Balanced Model
The strength of Mizan lies in its balance:
Academic rigor through established standards
Personalized support through in-person guidance
Spiritual grounding through integrated Islamic education
This model ensures that students are not left navigating their education alone, but are consistently supported, guided, and developed across all dimensions.
